Alite - Elite for Android
Aug. 5th, 2015 08:57 pmAlite, an Android version of Elite, is now available for download. Pictures look quite nice, but I can't get it to work properly on the Bluestacks emulator on my macbook - I'll try the Windows version later.
Here's the announcement:
I've created a stub page about it on the Fanlore wiki - http://fanlore.org/wiki/Alite
If anyone tries it and wants to say more PLEASE add to the page, at the moment it's a bit sparse.
Later - it works, but it looks like it won't work without a touch screen, a mouse doesn't do it.
Here's the announcement:
Elite for Android (Alite) is released: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.phbouillon.android.games.alite
For more information, please visit the web-site: http://alite.mobi
I hope it will work on all your Android devices --- if not, please do let me know :).
(Note that if you wish to register at the forum of the alite.mobi site, a moderator has to confirm your registration, first --- since I'm the only moderator for now and needing to sleep, now, registration might take some time :) -- sorry about that!)
I hope you like it!
As planned, I am going to release Alite's source code at the end of this year, so that you have a chance to enhance and improve it yourselves.

Date: 2015-08-15 02:30 pm (UTC)Using Windows 10, I could start Alite alright. The intro played and I could click (with the mouse) on the intro, skipping it.
The Intro Screen with the different ships and the 2D part of Alite seems to working fine, too.
Unfortunately, as soon as I click "Launch" in Alite, BlueStacks (and not Alite!) crashes :(.
So, at least on Windows, you don't need a touch screen to use Alite on BlueStacks, but it's no fun either, as you can't fly...
In addition, there are (minor) graphic glitches: Buttons are not filled completely, but show a black line near the bottom.
Not sure why; according to the Alite logs, there's still plenty of memory available. I'll see if I can do anything about it. Maybe some BlueStacks setting -- but I'm not a BlueStacks expert...
Re: BlueStacks Windows
Date: 2015-08-15 02:48 pm (UTC)Seems BlueStacks does not support OES_POINT_SPRITES... Hmmm...
So: In summary, using Alite with BlueStacks on Windows works "not too bad"... Although the lack of star dust makes the impression of movement go away completely... That's a shame...
