Blackberry playbook...

...has arrived and seems to be working well, I'm just charging it up before doing software updates etc. and trying to get some applications I want to play with. So far I haven't been able to see how it differs from Android devices; though I'm aware the operating system isn't the same it's supposed to be able to run Android applications, waiting to see how that works out in practice. The screen is quite good, I'll know more when I've played with it properly.

I'll be an interested reader, as I have one.

I like it for reading fanzines on and its native apps. But didn't get very far with installing Android apps

So far none of the Android aps I've looked for have been available, and since the main reason I got it was to try them I'm thinking about returning it. Having said that, it's a reasonable tablet and somewhat more expendable than the iPad so I may consider using it for day to day stuff if I don't want to carry the iPad.

One thing I haven't figured out is how to install Android apps other than through the Blackberry store, which I thought would be possible. Any ideas?

Further to this, you apparently have to be in developer mode to make it work, download the file via a PC, and transfer it across. There's a video here that explains it.

There's a complicated set of steps to getting an Android app store which I did (googled). But I didn't get any apps worth having from it. That was 18 months ago though.
