While looking through my older CDs I found a couple of fractal art disks by William Latham; The Garden of Unearthly Delights and Organic Art. Unfortunately neither of them runs under Windows 7; I can get them to work after a fashion in a virtual XP machine, but even a virtual machine runs VERY fast by the standards of 20+ year old software, and they really don't work very well.

Has there ever been a more modern version of these disks, or a successor program, that will work properly on a modern 64-bit Windows 7 box? The Wikipedia article on Latham is not very informative, neither is his web site.

Presumably you've tried selecting XP Compatibility mode in the program's file properties?

Is there a version that runs under DOS? If so you could try running it under Dosbox.

Unfortunately the install programs etc. are the problem - they seem to need some version of Windows, possibly 3.1, but aren't happy with any of the compatibility modes and there is the speed problem when I use XP in an emulator. I'll give Dosbox a try, it might do the trick.

Nope, just says it needs windows.

I think that's rather modern by my 1970s to early 1980s standards for such things! I do also have a very old Windows computer or two but getting them to run after all this time is another matter ...

They work after a fashion in the XP emulator, I can live with that.
