My sister just bought my middle niece a laptop with Windows 10 and a year's free subscription to office 365, which she needs for work.

Getting it up and running and jumping through all of Microsoft's hoops took nearly two hours. Some of that may be my fault, I don't know this software very well, but I can't help thinking that I will never, under any circumstances, take this "upgrade" path for myself.

Mine took me a lot less time than that, and was very simple, and the same was true of my daughter's when we gave it her for Christmas... except that Curry's 'scratch card' for accessing Office apparently has to be used within 48 hours of issue - great to go with a gift... not!

But Windows 10, and the new version of Office after a couple of days adjusting, has been great with no problems.

I think the problem is that (a) it isn't a particularly wonderful computer and (b) I'm more used to Mac and Windows 7.
