Laptop woes
Jun. 25th, 2023 04:10 pm My old MacBook Pro now has the following faults
DVD drive recently died (and it won't let you use an external drive if an internal one is fitted, even though it doesn't work)
right hand shift key doesn't work (and has been that way for several years) - I can work around it but it's a PITA.
left hand shift key sticks intermittently. This is a new fault and may gradually be going away, not sure what's happening there. But I will have real problems if it recurs or becomes permanent.
This doesn't really sound like much but it's actually some very expensive repairs, probably well over a hundred - I think it's probably worth looking at a replacement. I can live without an internal DVD drive if I can use an external one. I would prefer OSX to windows, or preferably dual boot. I don't need blinding speed - this mostly gets used for email and web browsing, occasional zoom meetups, etc.
What I would really like is another 13" MacBook Pro, but I'm not sure I can entirely justify it unless it's pretty old. The other possibility I'm thinking about is a MacBook Air, if they aren't hopelessly slow.
Any thoughts, recommendations, bargains to point me at?
