When you look at some of the others who've won it, I think Bob Dylan has a pretty good claim!

But what he actually won was the prize for literature...

The four writers of English verse who've won the Nobel, and whose work I'm familiar with, are Rudyard Kipling, William Butler Yeats, T.S. Eliot, and Bob Dylan. I can tell you where I put the big gap in that list. . . .

What I actually meant to say was that he'd be a good candidate for the peace prize. Not really sure about literature... Now edited accordingly.

Sorry! I didn't actually see that you had referred to the Peace Prize; my eye scanned your title and my brain plugged "Literature," because that's what I expected to see, and I didn't spot your joke until later.

I suppose Jodi Picoult could win a Grammy for an audio book. No one's clued Pitchfork and Vice in on the fact that the Nobel committee can do like the Cannes Film Festival does and award it to whoever they want to.

If he ever wins it for physics or chemistry then we're in trouble.

Very true.

And, of course, Winston Churchill also won the Nobel Prize for Literature.

I really can't remember why they actually chose him, there's nothing I can remember that particularly stands out apart from his WW2 thing.

He did write an awful lot of books (read that as you will). Read Roy Jenkins biography of him a few years ago. He did a history of WWI, a biography of his ancestor the Duke of Marlborough, and a History of the English Speaking People:

They even did a TV series of that:

But the Wikipedia entry says he got it as much for his oratory as for his writing.

I'd forgotten the History of the English Speaking People - I suppose sheer quantity has a quality of its own. Or was that Stalin?
