Does anyone have any experience of RoboLinux? It's a version aimed at Windows users which includes a virtual windows environment and claims to operate Windows software in a sandbox at something like full speed and with a lot of extra security. I've never heard of it before, but given the horrible cost of upgrading Windows before Windows 7 support ends I'm seriously looking at alternatives now.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

later - having delved into it some more, this seems to be run by a one-man band and I get the impression that he's assuming a LOT more knowledge of Linux than I have, or is simply unable to explain how to do basic things like choose the correct version for my machine in a coherent way. I think I'm going to go back to looking at one of the mainstream Linux distros that has better support and documentation.

Software Geeks are currently selling Windows 10 Pro licences for £20:

They're legit resellers; I've bought several licences off them and I'm getting one for a laptop I'm upgrading this weekend.

Yes, you can upgrade. There's a guide at https://www.howtogeek.com/225048/how-to-upgrade-from-windows-7-or-8-to-windows-10-right-now/ (other guides are available). You can download the Windows 10 ISO (32-bit or 63-bit) from Microsoft.
