With everyone drawing their horns in and trying to reduce travel etc. to a minimum, I got an email today to say that my new freedom pass (free public transport on tubes, buses, trams etc. for the elderly in the London area, and free travel on local buses in most of the rest of the UK) is on its way...

Despite the timing of its arrival? Cool! I wish OC Transpo had such arrangements here in Ottawa for my elder relatives and friends. But our population is still only about 1 million hereabouts, compared to metropolitan London's number, so we still have to ding our elders on occasion for a share of the transit system's expenses.

It works quite well in keeping retired people mobile, with positive effects (usually) such as reducing the need for carers etc., helping people get to places where they can exercise safely, etc. I've been eligible for several years and normally use the buses and tubes etc. several times a week. Not right now though...
