Predictable, I suppose

The Notting Hill Carnival at the end of August has been cancelled - even though it's a fair while yet I think the organizers are assuming that too many people will have problems with preparation etc. to make it viable, even if things are back to normal re travel etc.

The organizers said:

 "Notting Hill Carnival was founded to bring people together during trying times, and we intend to continue that legacy. We are working towards an alternate NHC 2020 that we hope will bring the Carnival spirit to people from the safety of their homes, and make them feel connected and engaged".

Leeds carnival cancelled a month ago. I'm surprised it took Notting Hill this long to decide, costume and float building can take months.

Pretty much what I thought - I suspect there was political pressure not to cancel.

Not that unexpected, really... we already have Harvard University here having a faculty planning session to prepare for the Fall Term and basically not expecting to reopen the classrooms and lecture halls (but they will be reopening the research labs in the near future).

It's going to be very difficult getting schools and colleges back up to speed - I'm a retired educational lab technician and the sort of time gap they've had is longer than any holiday we ever had - just making sure that all the chemicals are still OK, replacing endless dead batteries, disposing of biologicals that have gone bad, etc. etc. could take weeks.
