This revived July 2014 One-Roll Engine Bundle offer once again presents a diverse assortment of superheroic rulebooks and settings that use the One-Roll Engine game system by Greg (Unknown Armies) Stolze and Dennis (Delta Green) Detwiller, published by Arc Dream Publishing. As shown in Arc Dream's tutorial, ORE lets you toss a handful of ten-sided dice and use the roll's Width (number of matching results) and Height (the value on the matching dice) to quickly determine degrees of success, initiative order, hit location, and damage. It's easy yet surprisingly versatile. Though technically a generic system, ORE really shines in superheroic action. GODLIKE puts supers into WWII, but without the spandex and pulp sensibilities -- war, after all, is hell. eCollapse brings supers into a near-future dystopia. This Favored Land explores a US Civil War with Talents. Grim War brings dangerous summoning magic. Better Angels even casts players as supervillains, who struggle against internal demons -- literal demons -- that grant them power at a high price.
This bargain-priced revival once again gives you everything you need to start your own One-Roll campaign. We provide each title complete in .PDF. Like all Bundle of Holding titles, these ebooks have NO DRM (Digital Restrictions Management), and our customers are entitled to move them freely among all their devices.
Ten percent of each purchase (after gateway fees) goes to this revival's pandemic-related charity,Direct Relief. Direct Relief sends protective gear and critical care medications to health workers, with emergency deliveries to medical facilities across the US and to regional response agencies across the world.
The total retail value of the titles in this revived offer is US$143. Customers who pay just US$14.95 get all three complete rulebooks in our Starter Collection (retail value $20 apiece, total retail $60) as DRM-free ebooks, including GODLIKE Revised Edition, Wild Talents Second Edition, and Better Angels. As a convenience to customers, the Starter Collection also includes a collection of "ORE Freebies."
Those who pay more than the threshold (average) price, which is set at $27.95 to start, also get this revival's entire Bonus Collection with five more titles worth an additional $83, including the GODLIKE supplements Black Devils Brigade (retail $20) and Will to Power (retail $10); two Wild Talents campaign supplements, Grim War (retail $18) and eCollapse (retail $15); and a Civil War alternate history using the GODLIKE rules, This Favored Land.
I've only had time to check one of these games, Godlike, and it seems to be a nicely designed setting with a lot of potential. The rules are about average for a superhero system, with a lot of emphasis on combat but lots of other capabilities too, and a lot of work has gone into making WW2 with superpowers look vaguely plausible. If the others are this good I think it's a very good bundle.
