This revived July 2018 Mutant Year Zero Bundle is one of two offers in progress that present Mutant Year Zero, the post-apocalyptic SFRPG from Free League Publishing. Mutant: Year Zero is the current English-language version of the Swedish SFRPG Mutant, first published in 1984. Developed by the Free League design team (ALIEN, The One Ring, Vaesen, Twilight: 2000, Tales From the Loop), Year Zero was published in 2014 (in both Swedish- and English-language versions) and became an instant hit. Year Zero goes back to the origins of the Mutant franchise: roleplaying after the Apocalypse. You play as one of The People -- heavily mutated humans living in The Ark, a small and isolated settlement in a sea of chaos. The outside world is unknown to you, and so is your origin. The locations of the Zone and the Ark are up to you -- why not play in a post-apocalyptic version of your home town? Year Zero's modular approach lets you place all campaign material wherever you like.

This revival once again presents the early English-language Mutant: Year Zero line, including the core Year Zero rulebook and the first expansion, Genlab Alpha, a standalone companion RPG about mutated animals. Genlab Alpha was successfully Kickstarted in January 2016 and released in July 2017.

Last time I said This is a very nicely designed game that looks like it's relatively easy to learn, and might be fun if you like a grim and fairly hopeless game world, like Judge Dredd or Paranoia with the funny bits sawn off, but that isn't me. You're definitely getting a lot for your money, so if your tastes differ you might find this interesting. Recommended, with all usual caveats. I really don't see any reason to change that; it's interesting, but I don't think it's for me.

On a sliding scale of post-apocalyptic TTRPGs from Gamma World (sci-fantasy) to Aftermath (hard-ish scifi), where does this fit? It sounds like it's a bit more toward the Gamma World end.

Much more Gamma World than aftermath - it has mutations that do useful things, and the expansion include AI robots and intelligent animals. The system is more focussed on storytelling than simulation.
