Warehouse 23

Just heard that due to technical issues Steve Jackson Warehouse 23 will no longer be distributing e-text gamebooks from some smaller companies and authors including me. Mostly this affects Diana: Warrior Princess and The Original Flatland Role Playing Game. They will continue to host backup files for people who have already bought them through their site, but it new buyers will have to go to Drivethru RPG instead. Forgotten Futures material is all on line at forgottenfurures.co.uk or you can get the PDFs through Drivethru RPG.

I have no idea who else is affected by this.

Sympathies! Is it related to tax rules for the UK and possibly also Europe now? I know of more cases where online companies won't sell to UK (and often also EU) customers any more. But I can imagine some processing behind the scenes might have affected selling authors too.

I think it's more that there are a lot of things they have to keep track of for each publisher / author regardless of income. When it's very low income coming in, like me, it gets to a point where they are probably running the account at a loss. Drivethru was set up much more with small publishers in mind, and I think with much better automation. My take there is regularly much better than on Warehouse 23, so it isn't a huge loss to lose that market. There used to be a tiny reduction in Drivethru's cut if they were the only distributor, I'll have to check if that still applied once Warehouse 23 have pulled my stuff.
