It appears that there will be a general election on July 4th.

Stand by for several weeks of biased reporting and crappy coverage of any other story, unless someone can use it to discredit their opposition. At least it will be over reasonably fast, but coming so soon after the local council elections it won't feel like it.

Later - [personal profile] original_aj points out that this is after the start of school holidays in Scotland, not sure if this some sort of fiendish political plot or just an assumption that anyone who has booked a holiday that early will get a postal ballot.

I've already had an email from the SNP pointing out it is during Scottish school holidays. And I've put in my application for a postal vote since it's at the end of my 2 week holiday.

Elections always used to be fun in our household growing up. Both my parents were active in the Labour Party and local councillors so we never got canvassers calling. We kids used to get roped in to Blue-Peter-like activities or cutting a copy of the electoral register into strips and pasting the strips onto card for the canvassers to take with them. If we were very good, we went out distributing election leaflets.
