The new Wallace and Gromit film aired on TV on Christmas day - it's short feature length at 79 minutes and featured Wallace and Gromit handling the consequences of The Wrong Trousers - Feathers McGraw the penguin criminal mastermind finally took his revenge on the dynamic duo. This led to the creation of an army of robotic garden gnomes, the seizure of all of Wallace's inventions, and eventually a long chase by road and canal.

It was a fun film, but I'm not sure it adds much to the existing body of work - there's only one new character with a speaking role who doesn't actually get a huge amount of screen time, and no new romantic interests for Wallace or Gromit. I don't regret watching it, but it did revisit old themes rather than creating new ones. Feathers McGraw was, of course, a superb supervillain who stole every scene he was in, and there are lots of homages to Doctor Who, James Bond, The Italian Job and other caper films; I think it's a must-view if you're planning to use him in fanfic. But on the whole I think that it would have worked better if it had been much shorter, it's nearly as long as Curse of the Were-Rabbit and the plot is nowhere near as inventive.

Incidentally, anyone notice the James Bond reference in the new Doctor Who? (I had to google it.)

I enjoyed it. It occurred to me that you could argue that it was closer to being science fiction than the Christmas "Doctor Who" story was, which in spite of involving time travel was closer to being fantasy.
