Another Forgotten Futures possibility

John Kendrick Bangs. Someone suggested him over breakfast this morning, and the possibility of a "club" theme crossed my mind; Chesterton's Club of Queer Trades and Tales of the Long Bow, Bangs' House-boat on the Styx and sequel, maybe another if I can find one. Then describe a few clubs of my own, with members and scenario ideas; for example, FF9 included several different schemes for getting to the Moon, a "Lunar Explorer's Club" with the members competing to get there first might have worked nearly as well as the newspaper contest I used.

Of course the one I would love to use - autopope's Extreme Coffee Society, responsible for most of the technology of the last couple of hundred years - isn't available, but I might be able to think of alternatives.

Oddly enough, Bangs appears (as a passenger on the Houseboat on the Styx, of course) in Alan Moore's comic Promethea. The protagonist turns out to be a descendant of his.

Now, Promethea is about as far from the style you generally want for Forgotten Futures as you can get and still be in the same universe of discourse . . .

If I thought I could file the serial numbers off well enough I'd use it like a shot. Since I can't...
