I discovered a couple of days ago that if I was looking at an item on Amazon.co.uk , and accidentally clicked on "one click order", the order was placed even though I wasn't logged on at the time; the browser cookies "knew" who I was from a previous session, and that was enough to let one click ordering work. To make matters worse this was a third party order from a US company, not a direct order to Amazon, so this will probably take ages to sort out. Amazon don't want to get involved, they say it's between me and the other company. I'm just VERY glad that nobody has ever logged onto one of the computers I've used at work and placed a few orders in my name, because as far as I can see there's no way to prevent if it you have one-click ordering enabled. Needless to say I have now disabled it.

I'd like to comment on Amazon's attitude, but I'm still so angry I might say something I'll regret.

Amazon One Click order

I use to have one the click order button enabled for Amazon. however, awhile back when I did an overhaul of the computer, I elected to get rid of the one click option and do the ordering the old fashioned way.

To be honest, nowadays I mostly use Amazon to get the ISBN for a book I want to find or order at the library.

That sounds like an absolute nightmare.

I've never seen the point of one-click myself -- the shipping charges would quickly add up. I always wait until I have enough for free shipping.

And working when you're not logged in is a major security flaw. A fair number of people use public computers -- sounds like they are wide open to a security breach.

Arrgh. I've never enabled one-click, but hadn't realized it was that bad.

And then there's the point that there isn't a "log out" function at Amazon! The only way I've found to log out is to go to the place where it says, "If you're not whomever, click here" and click. Not exactly obvious, is it?

You played it wrong. Instead of saying that YOU clicked the one-click by mistake, you should have said it was your snake/cat/small child/crazy aunt.

Heck, this case of that is only a month old.

And gave a lot of free publicity to the seller for the re-auction....

You make me glad that I never enabled 1-click ordering!

I don't ever remember actually enabling it, though I suppose that it's possible I did at some point.
