Misco are selling the phaser 6180DN network colour laser for £225+ VAT - this is a slightly down-market version of the 6100 I have, since maximum resolution is only 600x600, but like the 6100 it does duplexing, which you don't often see on cheaper printers.

Later: Sorry - [livejournal.com profile] autopope points out that I misread this, duplexing is an optional and presumably pricy extra.

Meanwhile Morgans have two network colour lasers (not duplexing though) around £100-150, both look to be basic network or USB printers, 600x1200

Tally Genicon - £99.99 inc VAT -

Oki C3300n - £152.74 inc VAT - http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/shop/detail.asp?ProductID=4281&CategoryID=99&SubCategoryID=199

Also a non-networking 2400x600 colour laser
Samsung CLP300N Colour Laser - £117.49 inc VAT - http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/shop/detail.asp?ProductID=4279&CategoryID=99&SubCategoryID=199

Of course with all of these the problem is likely to be the cost of consumables over the long haul. But the idea that you can buy a colour laser for 20% of what I paid for my first 300 DPI mono laser is slightly mind-blowing...

I used to be wary of b-list makes of printers, but quite often they are usually a-list equipment with b-list names.

Running costs though are criminal for some of these darlings, regardless of their list status.

BTW I whole-heartedly recommend Misco, some of the best customer service around.

The 6180DN duplexer is optional. Any idea what the part number is, and how much it costs?

Our old HP 4550N is getting a bit long in the tooth (we've had it for at least seven years), the duplexer is unobtainium (and cost &#pound;450 +VAT when it wasn't), and the toner cartridges cost about 50% more than the Xerox's. [livejournal.com profile] feorag wants A3 as well as duplexing, but that tends to drive the cost of a colour laserprinter right into orbit ...

Sorry, I misread it - no idea on this at all. Not such a good deal then.

Took a look, they have this

for £170 - it says it's for 6120 series printers, you'd have to check if that includes this one.

I've just bought an HP 2600n from Komplett for £169 (+ shipping), but haven't set it up yet. http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?sku=310584

I've got one of those. Toner is $100 per cartridge (4 required).

Yes, I was wondering why a 2600n cost so much more than a 1600 + a print server (at somewhere selling the 2600n for rather more, but still), when I found the reviews saying 2600n comes with full cartridges and a 1600 with "introductory" small ones. And the 1600 drivers are Windows only (not that I have a Mac, but I might use it from Linux).
