Got to play with an Asus Eee PC 701/4G for a moment at Dragonmeet. I am now thinking seriously about flogging the Jornada 710 and buying one, despite the fact that it doesn't meet my "fit in a pocket" criterion. It's just REALLY nice and seems to be VERY strongly built, and would be a nice way to get to play with Linux.

First, hie thee to the tweaks site: www.eeeuser.com. There's a big knowledgebase there that can probably answer all your questions ...

Hmm... I get the impression I should wait for things to settle down a little.

It's not going to: this is a fairly wild ride.

On the plus side, if you'd rather tinker with Windows XP, you can install a copy on the Eee -- instructions are in the manual, and drivers are on the CD that comes with the machine.

Buying a copy of XP would add big time to the price of the thing, and I really would like to take a cautious look at Linux, so I will probably go that route.
