Considerably better tonight - the plot more or less made sense as a time paradox, and they didn't weasel out of the nastier side of things. A slight hint of a Sapphire and Steel influence, never a bad thing.
Nobody saying "There's no such thing as aliens" when so many people know there are aliens that London was near deserted in case they turned up at Christmas again...
It's definately improved this year. That's the third episode in a row I haven't wanted to throw tomatoes at the screen. Hell, even Primeval was better than Torchwood last year.
Last night's was a great idea and nicely written. It did, however smack a bit of: 'I've got some great ideas: 1918 Torchwood, A soldier from WWI frozen in Torchwood's vaults. They have to revive him once a year.' 'Awesome! Cool! What's the story?' 'er... um... er... timerift?' 'Yeah, that'll do.'
And...
'When he goes back in time, he'll lose all his memories. It'll be like he never left.' 'Why on earth should that happen?' 'It's 'timecobblers' - you wouldn't understand.'
These are all nit-picks though and didn't spoil a great episode.
