Another Torchwood thought

It just occurred to me that along with the other implausibilities of Owen's condition, his lungs etc. are eventually going to fill with cigarette tar since the cilia presumably aren't working.

Of course that applies to Spike too, but Spike is animated by a demon which presumably takes care of things like that.

For Spike, yes, because vampires heal. (All I can think of is Warren growing back a kidney in Family Issues.)
Owen, no such hope.

But this may be applying to much logic to Torchwood.

Lots of in canon examples. Angel got punched full of holes on multiple occasions, and got better, and Spike recovered from Buffy dropping a pipe organ on him.
