Here are the cover variants for the single-book and three-book versions of the Tooth and Claw RPG

I've changed the wording slightly on the three covers

Original cover - Roleplaying in the world of Jo Waltons World Fantasy Award winning novel.

Worldbook - Exploring the world of Jo Waltons... novel.
Rules - Roleplaying in the world of...
Adventures - Adventures in the world of...

There's a different coin motif for each cover - the original one is also used for the worldbook, the other two use two of [livejournal.com profile] frostfox's dragon pictures colorised and processed to look like coins. Think they work reasonably well.

The original cover - a generic Welsh dragon embossed onto a gold coin

The three cover versions

I need to adjust the spacing slightly, but I think they look pretty good.

Later The more I look at this, the more I think I want to use the third coin pattern for the game as a whole, not the one I originally used. Any opinions?

I really dislike the third cover motif - it's far too busy, IMHO. I much prefer the Welsh dragon, too.

Also, specifying the award leads to you using the word "world" twice on most books, three times on the worldbook. I'd be tempted just to say "Jo Walton's award winning novel". Unless the fact that it won the World Fantasy Award, as opposed to any other award, is a big selling point, I can't see a need to be so specific.

OK... you have a good point re the graphic - I think it may be too contrasty and dark, that's easily fixed, if I lighten it and flatten the colour out a bit it won't be so obtrusive.

I'll have to ask Jo what she thinks about changing it to "award winning novel," I can see the sense in it but would you be making the same point if it was e.g. the Hugo award and there was some reason why the word Hugo had to appear elsewhere on the cover?

Probably, yeah. Even though the Hugo is better known, that sort of duplication always looks (to me at least) a little clumsy.
