More coins

Playing with some more effects and different pictures, mostly by [livejournal.com profile] frostfox - think I'm beginning to get better results. I'm starting to think in terms of a collage of a lot of different coins for the cover, rather than all the same, so none of this is entirely wasted effort.

I hope.

Tiamath's flag on copper coin (one of my pics for a change)

Great Sea Serpent, gold coin. I rather like the lines but if I was planning on doing it bigger it would need to be neatened up considerably.

Dragon's Egg on copper coin. Needs a bit more background detail.

Later - added another Great Sea Serpent variant

I like the subtly of the first one.

Bit too subtle, maybe...

It looks worn-subtle, like it's been in circulation for a while and the freshness of the design has been worn away a bit. Which I like.

Remember that these will be pretty small if I use them on the cover, subtle detail may not show up too well.

I think that the lines and circles make the sea serpent coins too busy, especially the circles one. The sea serpent is kinda lost in the midst of them.

I've noticed that all your coins are missing some things that seem to be pretty common on all the coins I've seen: year of minting, denomination, country they belong to, maybe a motto in Latin...

I know, but the trouble is that whatever language the dragons use, I very much doubt it would be recognizable to us. Probably some sort of Welsh rune, but I really don't want to mess with that if I don't have to in case I accidentally say something very rude.

I really like the first one, both the image and the colour/texture. Were I to revise the image, I'd enlarge the dragon and place it centrally over the mountain. The Great Sea Serpent coins are both very busy, with the circles in particular drowning out the serpent. The dragon's egg image is lovely and works very well. I honestly don't think it needs a lot of background detail; they are after all old coins, and old coins tend to be quite simple in design.

Re the penny - remember it's the flag, so the layout would be horizontal rather than vertical. Originally the flag was just supposed to be a mountain, no dragon, but I persuaded Jo to let me have a little one so that I could legitimately have references to ships "flying the dragon flag" in the pirate adventure (arrr!)
