Sir Arthur C. Clarke has apparently died aged 90

I met him once, and exchanged mail a couple of times when I was writing an RPG called "George E. Challenger's Mysterious World," but he was enormously influential on my reading and appreciation of SF, and for a long time one of my favourite authors. He'll be missed.

Gosh. I was just reading about him an hour or so ago, how Warren Ellis got his email address from a mass mailing Michael Moorcock sent out but forgot to blind all the addressees.

Sad news, indeed.

His and Asimov 's output (and back catalogue) formed the backbone of my teenage reading. And have likewise been influential in my writing - even if that is only for personal gaming projects.

My dad had lots of books of the Big Three (Asimov/Bradbury/Clarke) in the house, so I read lots of them when I was young; I know Childhood's End was part of that. Damn.

One of the giants in the field. He'll be missed.
