Professor Richard Dawkins is allegedly going to star as himself in this season's Doctor Who. And this is interesting because, amongst other claims to fame, he's married to Lalla Ward (Romana II). We can always hope...

Oh dear lord...

I'm still holding out for Anthony Head

Seen a doctor yet?

Can you imagine if he was, he'd wind up with a couple of hundred Dawkins-Fanboy companions, and roam around the streets beating up people coming out of churches with outsized copies of The God Delusion.

Re-program the Cybermen to chant 'THERE IS NO GOD!'

I wonder what he'd make of the Doctor As Jesus theme in the show.

And yes, I hope Anthony Head's appearance doesn't totally rule him out of the running. Heard Eddie Izzard had been commenting the other day that he'd really like to be the Doctor too.

Got an appointment this afternoon.

Someone REALLY needs to write a Dawkins / Battlestar Galactica crossover...

A Doctor Who/Battlestar cross-over would work quite well, so if dawkins *was* the Eleventh doctor... ;)

Anthony Head seems unlikely given he's already been in Doctor Who as a bad guy ... I'm holding out for Richard E. Grant :-)

Or Kiefer Sutherland (or Donald Sutherland! Actually, wow, that would be some great casting and get us back closer to the first Doctor ...)

Having an actor who's been a villain become the doctor has been done before (http://uk.imdb.com/name/nm0048346/filmoseries#tt0056751)...

Hmm. Now, is this "starring" or is this on a par with the cough-and-a-spit appearances of Barbara Windsor and Derek Acorah at the end of season two?

I personally (with apologies to the man's fans) can't see any logical reason for giving him any more than that. He isn't an actor, as far as I know (nope, just checked). What he is is a well-known face, a celebrity, and we all know how RTD loves to show off his famous friends....but unless the episode is going to be "Doctor Who discovers that God doesn't exist and hacks off half his audience" I shouldn't think Dawkins will be on screen for more than thirty seconds at most.

On the other hand, of course, this is nuWho, so logic's on fairly shaky ground anyway...I guess we'll see.

I agree, I think it'll be like the Hawking appearance in ST: Next Gen. I'm really not that interested myself, except for the possibility his wife might be in the frame.
