Reasons not to buy Hotpoint (continued from last year)

Having bought a Hotpoint WD440 washer drier in February last year, I was less than impressed when it broke down just before Eastercon, and I was then told it would have to be repaired rather than replaced since by the time I reported it (just after Eastercon) the first "swap out" period of their service cover was over. The result was three service engineer visits before they admitted defeat and replaced it towards the end of May last year.

The replacement machine has just gone wrong... makes all the right noises, but it isn't heating the water or drying. Hopefully this is a relatively straightforward repair, or as straightforward as it can be. I'm expecting the engineer on Friday, then we shall see...

This is one of the times that the Vimes theory about the rich and footwear proves true.

Eight years ago we stretched ourselves to the limit and bought a Miele washer/dryer and so far, touch wood, it has not given us a moment's worry.

The annoying thing is that the previous machine was a cheapo Whirlpool model and lasted 11 ywars without problems.
