What are the Daleks up to? I think we've been focused on the Doctor and Donna so much that nobody has really said much about this. They're building something, it needs loads of humans and a load of planets, all to be turned into some sort of mechanism.

They've already re-created the Daleks so it isn't for that. So what is it, and why? And what is the Dark that people keep mentioning?

The only answer that makes sense to me is a doomsday machine - they're building something to wipe out all non-Dalek life in the universe, possibly by changing the cosmic constants to make the universe inimicable to life (see School Reunion) or snuff out the stars. They're planning to survive this, of course, possibly by being that vital second ahead of the rest of the universe.

Anyway, that's an answer that sort of makes sense to me, especially because if it involves large-scale time manipulation it gives an escape route for the Doctor and Earth. I still don't know Donna's place in this; I think she might be the Key to Time, but not sure.

Any other ideas?

As my mate pointed out, this also explains why the Daleks were trying to build an engine at Earth's core way back in Hartnell's Dalek Invasion of Earth. Obviously, it's very specific planets needed for this celestial machine.

My wacky, way out theory now involves Donna becoming a TARDIS.... I need sleep.

I can't believe they're retconning a dodgy plothole from 44 years ago... Surely that's some kind of record?

One of the planets they took was Calufrax, which was a piece of the Key to Time. Still don't know if that's relevant...

It does tend to give more strength to the theory.

Yes, I suspect Donna might become part of this machine. Perhaps she is sacrificed to become... another universe. Or the energy of the doomsday machine is channeled into her.

It has to be the machine that is responsible for all of the stars going out though.

I'm also half wondering if it might all be a trap for the Doctor, because Davros has the advantage of Prophecy on his side, it's possible he built this trap, and as soon as the Doctor tries to regenerate, Davros will absorb his time energy or something...

I still can't quite believe Tennant might be leaving.

Why not? He's a big star, he'll have important film or stage work to do. Besides, so far they've hewn rigidly to the policy of changing either the Doctor or the companion every single year, because everybody knows that no-one can stand to look at the same faces for more than thirteen weeks without getting bored. They've changed the companion twice now. Doctor's due.

I'm just amazed they've managed to keep it a secret. Usually the casting of the Doctor is pretty big news, and rumours at least leak out. But this time it's taken everybody completely by surprise.

Still not convinced it's a true regeneration, and we have the example of his daughter regenerating back into her old body if they want to keep Tennant.

Is it really the first time the Daleks have managed to zap him, as it said in the confidential?

Think it might be, the Daleks are notoriously awful shots when it comes to the Doctor. I sometimes half wonder if he mucked around with them early on in their evolution to place some sort of inhibition impulse in their targetting processes.

Wasn't Jenny's healing because of her residual time energy being enough to fix her because it was less than 24 hours since she had been created, in much the same way as the Doctor regrew his hand in the christmas episode?

... I do wonder if Captain Jack might have to sacrifice his time energy to maybe bring back the Doctor...

Not if he's going to end up as the Face of Boe.

Yep, it's the first time he's ever been shot by a Dalek. DT's totally not leaving though. It's just not happening. It's really funny watching the net meltdown about it though.
