I've got the [livejournal.com profile] ffutures_news blog in windows on my web sites, but with advertising coming to basic accounts I need to look at alternatives. Basically, I want to make an occasional announcement; it would be nice if it looked reasonably good and there was some way to get an RSS feed from it whenever I update it.

I've tried to use RSS Builder to create such a feed but it keeps giving errors when I try to upload it, which makes me think I'm doing something wrong. Should it link to a separate file containing the entries or something?

The simple way to do this would be to link to an insanejournal free account, which for the moment at least doesn't have advertising, but I would really prefer it to be more under my own control if possible.

Any suggestions?

later Sorry, not "in windows" - it's in a frame on the front page.

From what I understand of it, the only people who will see the advertising are people on a plus account, or people who aren't logged in. People who are logged in in basic, won't see the advertising either.

The trouble is that I want to have the latest news in a frame on my web site, which means that people who aren't livejournal users will see it. There's also a chance, depending on the nature of the advertising, that it will get my site blocked - I hope that it's useful in the educational sector, for example, and I can think of several types of advertising that would get it blocked fairly quickly.
