The network drive mystery deepens - it now appears that the Mac is only aware that it's there if my main PC is on line. This makes me think that the Mac is seeing it via the PC, which is just bizarre since it doesn't seem to think it's a shared drive on the PC.

I'd really like to get this to work if possible, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (though I won't be able to try them until tonight).

Later: Now sorted - on a hunch I tried a firmware upgrade that was recommended for Vista, it also works for OS-X

It's voodoo, I tell you. Sacrifice a mouse to Damballah and all will be well.

Will giving one to the snakes do?

I'm going to guess that a reprise of yesterday's "Mallet and a bucket" isn't what you want.

My suggestion, therefore, is to ask the PC which port address it thinks it's on, and then ask the iBook what it thinks is on that port. If it says "nothing" you may want to show the iBook a picture of the mallet and see if that helps.

Oh, and best wishes with it.

You'll have trouble recovering the 10cc of mouse blood (I think) required for the next rite...

Hm. Might be the PC acting as a SMB browse master, and the Mac only seeing the network drive when it can do the SMB name/address mapping.

What happens if you use "connect to server" in the Finder (not a web browser) to go to smb://ip.ad.dr.ess and connect directly to the drive?

I'll give it a try when I get home.

Says it can't find the drive.

I've contacted the manufacturers tech support, see if they can sort it out...

And five minutes later I found the solution - a firmware upgrade that was recommended for Vista.
