The network drive mystery deepens - it now appears that the Mac is only aware that it's there if my main PC is on line. This makes me think that the Mac is seeing it via the PC, which is just bizarre since it doesn't seem to think it's a shared drive on the PC.

I'd really like to get this to work if possible, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (though I won't be able to try them until tonight).

Later: Now sorted - on a hunch I tried a firmware upgrade that was recommended for Vista, it also works for OS-X
