Another stupid Linux question...

How do I add TrueType fonts? There are a couple I need to use - Albertus, which I bought for the PC but seems to be OK on my Mac too and will probably need on the Shiny(ish), and a special font for science technicians (hazard symbols etc.) that's again OK on PCs and Macs.

(pause of 20 minutes or so for another bloody fire alarm - this time a kid set it off deliberately)

Also, is there a good beginner's linux book anyone can recommend? Linux for Dummies or something?

I'd suggest going for one specific to the distro you're on. The conifg files can be stored in subtly different places.

I should point out that I've never managed to use a Linux desktop system for more than three months before losing interest in teh fiddling, and going back to Windows. The last time was a couple of years ago, so I think these pre-installed laptops are probably heaps better.

Albertus was a Windows 3.1 font; I really don't want to buy it again, it was pretty expensive. The other one only exists in Windows and Mac versions.

The version of linux on the mini-note seems pretty good, it's just a bit of a steep learning curve.

Precisely why you don't want to get a book that tells you look at some vital file that doesn't even exist in your version.
