Oh so true. It is better than Vista.

Not yet, but we've downloaded it and earmarked a machine for testing our software on. So, soon.

Funny cartoon, but in my experience Windows Vista is much better than Windows XP. I develop as a standard user, not an admin, but I often need to do admin stuff. Vista's UAC (yes, the thing "everyone" complains about) makes that scenario much, much easier.

Having just found the beta only works as a Vista upgrade, I'm no longer waiting to see if I can get a public copy.
(At work we have an MSDN subscription, but I no one has mentioned looking at 7 yet. After using Vista at work for CAPI-NG (because 2008 Server wasn't out yet at the time), I have no plans to move from XP to Vista at home.)

That's what I was wondering - OK, can't give it a try then, I have no Vista machines here.

Actually I might be misreading it:
http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/01/07/information-on-downloading-and-installing-windows-7-beta.aspx
"The Windows 7 Beta only supports Windows Vista SP1 to Windows 7 upgrades. So if you intend to do an upgrade – be sure it is on a PC running Windows Vista with Service Pack 1. We are not yet announcing anything regarding finalized upgrade paths for Windows 7."

It might be that installing from scratch is also allowed, so if you have a spare PC, it doesn't need Vista first.

I haven't updated to the public beta yet, but I've been running the previous beta release on my laptop for about two months now and I really like it... although some of the changes in the UI took a bit for me to get used to. (Of course, I should probably admit that I'm actually rather fond of Vista since it solved a few problems I'd been having in XP and I've never had any troubles with it.)

Yup, it'll happily install from scratch. We've been throwing it at netbooks for quite a while now...
