Yeah, I'm kind of glad that I was watching through binoculars from about ten miles away with several sheets of bullet proof glass between me and the fandom.
I mean I got to enjoy it as a brilliant five part series. And that was gut wrenching enough.
Yeah, I really liked it too. And I say that as somebody who hated the first 2 seasons of Torchwood. Be fascinated to see what the viewing figures are, because I think this torchwood this week had a much broader appeal. Hell, my parents both watched it. And enjoyed it.
Oh so was I, I cried. Rather a lot. I mean I'd felt a deal of sympathy for him ever since the start of the series and I actually just felt more and more sorry for him as the series progressed. Partly to do with the actor I think he was just great. Really brilliant.
Yes, I'd hoped we'd get more back story on him. And when he got the gun I was desperately hoping he was going to bust Jack out of jail and together they were going to do something. But... then he went home, and kissed his children, and sent them upstairs. And I was thinking, well, maybe he's going to hijack the press conference and tell the truth.
But no.
And the bit crossing over to his assistant explaining how he was a good man, that was very well done too.
I wanted the PM to have a worse ending, for doing that to him.
Yes, the PM was definitely the least sympathetic of the Spooks bunch also I could just tell that Frobisher had been chosen because he was the "middleman" the Civil Service rather than one of his fellow politicians.
I was glad, oh so glad, that he, sort of, got his comeupance.
It was a fantastic sequence I just couldn't quite believe that it was happening.
Oh I was already in floods but yes completely and it was bad because I really needed to take a minute to recover from that but I wasn't watching the type of telly that you can pause.
What is worse is that you know the day was saved in the end.
Yes, at least while I was watching it I was still thinking it was possible that the 456 really were going to abscond with 10% of the worlds children, but it was half in my mind that he was maybe about to kill his family for nothing.
Though honestly I think the scene with jacks daughter when she realised what Jack was going to do hit me even harder.
That was dreadful as well. Really dreadful, but again, understandable. I suppose that has been a real theme through the mini series, how much is too many? How true is it that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few? How much are we willing to sacrifice to save our own families, will we sacrifice our own families to save the world.
Yes, I liked that about it. It actually asked some serious questions. Like what would you do, if the choice was between giving up the children, and facing humanity being wiped out by a virus. Of course, you would give up the children. Which is probably why we had to get that scene of the PM condemning Frobishers kids.
I did have a bit of a problem, not with him planning that, but actually going through with it. No matter how rules-oriented and hidebound he might have been, when he looked at them with the gun in his hand, I can't imagine how he didn't turn around, go downstairs, and wait for the soldiers, possibly with the gun still in his hand. Or, given how much time he still had before the press conference, realize how easy it would really be to go on the run.
I presume his wife must have gone first, since she didn't strike me as one to allow him to do as planned without more of a struggle.
No, I couldn't get my head around it either. Yet, these things happen in the world every now and then. I can only assume he'd had a total mental breakdown. Which would be understandable given the stress he was put under by his political superiors.
It's the best thing RTD has done since Queer As Folk, by a light year.
I think Gwen will be back as new head of Torchwood in Season 4. It's a bit cliched, but it's a classic approach -- follow the lead character from "green new recruit" to "old hand", over 3 seasons, and then have the old guy leave everything to her.

Date: 2009-07-10 09:48 pm (UTC)Day One- 5.94 million
Day Two- 5.6 million
Day Three- 5.9 million
Day Four- 6.2 million
Those are the overnights and will rise when folks recording it etc are taken into account.
5.9 is about the same as Ashes To Ashes in the same slot. 6.2 is more than A2A gets.
