Someone who knows more about US politics than me REALLY needs to write a West Wing crossover showing the Santos Administration's reaction to the events of CofE

Am I the only person who does a double take every time I see that particular acronym? To me CofE is the Church of England...

MINOR SPOILERS IN COMMENTS

Nope - I've been having a minor giggle every time I see CofE and default to the wrong option!

I'm actually employed (indirectly) by the CofE so it is something I immediately noticed.

I would have loved to have seen the CofEs official response to the 456.

'We are the 456, you will give us all of your children!'

'Really? Oh dear me. Wouldn't you rather have a nice cup of tea instead?'

And a bicci. Must not forget the digestives.

'We are the 456. You will give us your children... And your hob-nobs. We like hob-nobs.'

Somehow takes away the air of mystery, I fear.

I was wondering what the General Synod had done in Torchwood lately.

Ha! Could be fun if either of them was shooting for bishop.

To me CofE is the Church of England...

And to me - it has made skimming my friends' list amusing over the past couple of weeks!

I work in a church school so it feels a little silly.

You're right, it's definitely Church of England, and it's got me doing double-takes, too.

BTW, love the comment from gonzo21 about the 456 liking hob-nobs); that made me laugh.

Without getting spoilery, it would have been less of a problem...

I'm not entirely clear from the action on screen - were they supposed to be doing general round ups in the US (and the rest of the world) on the same schedule, or was the UK more or less a proving ground for the concept? Because I can't see it happening in the US without riots in the cities, lots of outcry even in the mainstream media about Posse Comitatus, and spawning hundreds of Timothy McVeighs fueled by honest to goodness evidence of there being a New World Order to fight against...

My guess is yes, but I don't think they explicitly said.

I just don't see it happening at all under a Santos administration. He's got a lot more spine than any politician showed in this series.

And what sort of circumstances would have the British cabinet sitting still and taking orders from an American general, in their own cabinet room? If an American show had done that, the Brits would be all up in arms about how that would never happen.

I also found it hard be believe that there wasn't a single politician who showed that he had any sort of spine in the whole thing.

And the final bit with Spears and what's-her-name from the cabinet telling the PM he was done...Spears should have said the same thing to the cabinet bitch. She's the one who came up with the "let's get rid of the bottom 10%" plan.

One thing I thought they should have said: In the bit where they were talking about the American President *not* taking part in meeting the aliens, because of security concerns, someone should have commented on how the last time a British PM set up a meeting between the US President, and some aliens, the President got fried. The rewind at the end of "Last of the Time Lords" backed things up to just *after* the President was killed.

CofE always means Church of England, which actually gets called "sea-of-ee". I thought we were using CoE or COE for Torchwood.

Dude, I want that crossover. Also, a crossover with Spooks where Harry finds out what was going on.

I've been seeing CofE a lot.

Spooks is a good idea, except they all die...
