This morning I has several things to carry after I'd parked my bike, and it wasn't until ten or so that I realised that my crash helmet wasn't with my coat. So after a quick search to make sure I hadn't left it somewhere I sprinted down four flights and round the corner to my bike, parked on the street a couple of hundred yards away...
And amazingly it was still there, sitting on the seat where I'd left it. This strikes me as little short of amazing, since over the years I've lost (from this and earlier bikes) the BMW badge, a mirror, a clock, the road tax disk, and the plastic cover over the big bolts that hold everything together. All of that stuff was fairly firmly attached, the helmet was just sitting there.
This is undoubtedly the prelude to something horrible going wrong!

I will just say again how shocked and amazed I was when I left one of my guitars outside the front door of my house overnight and didn't realise it until I opened the door the next morning (after the school rush had finished) to find it still sitting there propped against the little wall near the front door, with the case covered in dew.
And how surprised I was to see guitar amps left sitting against a wall in Japan overnight near a popular "busking" spot, as the owner trusted people not to steal them away... and it being a fairly common thing in Japan to expect your stuff *not to be stolen* ...
