cdybedahl very kindly gave me a gmail invitation so I hastened to Google's site and signed up.

Really looking forward to trying it, but the service has apparently gone down or something! Not a wonderful start, but I shall persevere...

Happened to me as well when I signed up today. Seems to be working fine now. I was a bit worried when I received a server error after signing up and then the invititation link didn't work anymore. Thankfully, the signup had gone through and I finally managed to log in.

Yes, seems to be okay now. As webmail services it looks pretty good - won't work with Opera, I think because I don't have activex enabled - I seem to recall disabling it as a security risk but I could be wrong. So until I've sorted that I'll have to use Internet Explorer (spit) instead.

Turns out Opera doesn't support Activex because they consider it a security risk. So do several other browser manufacturers.

I've contacted the Google people and pointed this out, they say they're working on a plain HTML version. We shall see.
