The Campaign for Real Daleks
Apr. 18th, 2010 07:03 pmThe Campaign for Real Daleks needs YOU!
If you have seen Doctor Who 5.3 you will know that they have rebooted Daleks in a new and somehow infinitely less frightening form. My guess is that this has been done purely for marketing purposes, so that they can sell lots of My Little Dalek models.
You are urged to take the following steps ONCE YOU HAVE SEEN THE EPISODE and experienced the full horror:

You are urged to take the following steps ONCE YOU HAVE SEEN THE EPISODE and experienced the full horror:
- Write or email the BBC complaining about the new Daleks Lite and requesting that they return to Classic Daleks.
- Add "Campaign for Real Daleks" to your Livejournal interests.
- Boycott merchandise based on the New Daleks and refuse to buy them for your kids etc. This is the one that may actually make the BBC pay attention.

Date: 2010-04-19 04:22 pm (UTC)1) "We're changing everything else so why not them?" (Well, why not the Cybermen, who're still the Pete's World version?)
2) "BBC Worldwide insisted for marketing and we needed a backhander from them cos of the budget cut"
3) "We were forced to make comfier-for-the-operators versions because of new health and safety regulations."
I know which one I believe...

Date: 2010-08-04 04:04 pm (UTC)Here are three steps for you -
1 - Act your age and not your shoe size and realize sometimes things in life change and not always to your liking.
The inspiration for the new Dalek design were the bright amd colourful Daleks from the old Peter Cushing Movies, and I think they pull that off nicely.
Daleks aren't scary because of what they look like, but because of what they are capable of.
2 - How about those who are so vehemently up in arms, and making all the many spurious accusations at the BBC about why the new Daleks are here realize that at the end of the day the BBC is still a business like any other. The license fee barely covers the expense of TV Production each year, so anything that generates income for them is a good thing.
Or would you rather Doctor who didn't get made - if Doctor Who isn't profitable, and that includes merchandising - production will stop. All the curmudgeons out there moaning about the new Dalek design are pretty much "willing" Doctor Who to fail. I've been a Doctor Who fan since the 60's, and the new Daleks are lovely, getting back to THE WAY THEY WERE with different colours designating different designs. The Bronze "Steam Punk" half-breed Daleks were OK as a temporary replacement, but the new Daleks are much nicer looking and more in the style of the originals.
The "silhouette" isn't that much different, those who complain it does are clutching at straws really. The "neck" slats are gone, replaced by two horizontal "strips" much like the original Dalek design from "The Dead Planet", and the idea multi-coloured daleks had been around for years before the "all bronze and rivets" look came along - even that diverged a little with the Black and Red Daleks making an appearance during the Tennant years.
3 - "Boycott merchandise based on the New Daleks and refuse to buy them for your kids etc. This is the one that may actually make the BBC pay attention" - this one ACTUALLY made me laugh out loud. The new Daleks have sold MILLIONS of units, so few people agree with you compared to those who actually appreciate the new design, you are "pissing in the wind" with this one.
Instead of wasting your time on such a purile and pathetic campaign, which not do as I do and help people and animals in need.
This week alone the wife and I have taken in 3 abandoned Cats, and cleared an old couples "wasteland" of a garden (actually it was their neighbour who alerted me to your post, he knows I am a Who Fan). Whereas you are encouraging people to waste their time on something trivial and pointless.
You say you are campaigning for the return of real Daleks, I say you are wasting your time - they are already here . . . .
