Sample characters

These are the sample characters I'm using for the Planets of Peril adventures - pictures from 1920s - 30s SF etc, with some edits, face transplants, etc.

From left to right:

Commander [Hubert] ‘Huntley’ Palmer (RNVR, League of Nations Patrol)
VERY British, not entirely happy about the weird shower he's been given as his crew.

Lieutenant Hiram Jones (Engineer)
New Yorker, suspects that Palmer regards him as some sort of native.

Hamilton ‘Ham’ Hammond (American Explorer / Journalist)
Fast with his guns and his fists.

Patricia Hammond (nee Burlingame; Venus-born Biologist / Explorer)
It's a close tie if she's rescued Ham more times than he's rescued her, or vice versa.

Professor Milton Morton (eccentric scientist)
"Eccentric" as in "barking mad," of course.

Doctor Otto Gerber (League of Nations diplomat and lawyer)
A Man of Mystery

Do they look about right for the roles?

They look like a stalwart crew of adventurers and ne're dowells as ever graced the space lanes. like how you have Raymond Massey as the commander of this group. He's the only one I recognize of the bunch. (One Hollywood starlet looks like every other Hollywood starlet, then and now.)

Does 'Ham' have any Jimmy Saville in him? At any rate, he looks a bit old to be a fist-swinger.

He's in his forties at the time the adventures are set, it doesn't seem too far out of the question.

She's one of the women who played Dale Arden in the Flash Gordon serials of the 1930s.

I'm just thinking that there might be a few to many H's in all those names. Hubert, Hiram, Hamilton, Hammond.

It's odd - I've used that cast of characters at least 6 times and nobody has ever said that before. But you're right, of course. Hiram is probably the best one to change - Ham and his wife are Weinbaum canon, so it can't be them, and I like the Huntley & Palmer joke.

Raymond Massey is a Canadian not a Brit though which would make him RCNVR.

Since this is set in the 22nd century I think that's the least of his problems...

He is supposed to be older - 44 versus 39. I might try darkening his hair a little, see what that looks like.

She doesn't look that old - she's obviously worn well!
