Time lapse

For work I need to put together an info sheet on time-lapse photography, concentrating mostly on web cams. I'd like to include links to software (preferably free) for PC, Linux, and (if possible) Mac.

Any suggestions?

I would say most webcams these days come with capture software which usually names/numbers the output sequentially and the better ones will let you take a capture every x seconds.
You can then import those easily into GIMP and make an animated GIF and there are free tools available that will turn GIFs into video files. I haven't played around much with time lapse (except the above icon).
Now that I think about it, I think the basic image viewer that comes with Windows Vista/7 allows you to make vids.

For OS X there's Frame by Frame. Very nice for free software:

Well, I just tried that with the only webcam I've got that works with the mac, my intelplay QX3 microscope - and the microscope promptly died and will no longer work with the mac or a PC.

Slightly baffling - it was OK for about 30 secs then kablooie. Just a coincidence it was a new bit of software, I hope. I'll leave it for a day or two, see if the microscope somehow recovers.
