To: Olympics committee

To the Olympics 2012 committee,

We wish for you to consider David Tennant as the official Lighter of the Olympic Flame. David portrays the Tenth Doctor on Doctor Who, a programme which has been part of our national consciousness for almost half a century and of which it can be said, captures the heart of being British more than an other piece of popular culture on television today.

David, as the Doctor, was seen lighting the Flame in an episode called “Fear Her” which featured the 2012 Olympics. We feel it would be entirely appropriate for him to be given this honour for real.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Dunno about that - of all the episodes to make real, Fear Her isn't the best - but I've always thought that, seeing as we can never top the Chinese opening ceremony, the government should give £1000 each to Clarkson, May and Hammond, to create a Top opening ceremony...

That, and The Mill should be commissioned to project thousands of flying Daleks (RTD era, not the new hunchbacks!) on a cyclorama around the stadium.

Now that is a VERY silly idea...

More importantly, we need to avoid the time paradox that would be caused by anybody else lighting the flame.

Really, the only appropriate person would be England's greatest athlete: the Zombie W. G. Grace.

It's... actually hard to imagine any single figure who could do it, who would be more instantly recognised. Because like it or not, the organising committee should recognise that most people in the UK really don't care about our athletes all that much. But Doctor Who? Hells yeah.

I thought the universe just got reset and none of that necessarily happened?

Not really connected to the current subject, but just wanted to thank you for writing interesting crossovers. Another story that I was following at TTH just crashed and burned because the author favored one set of characters over the other. Kind of disappointing because it started with a really interesting premise, but then all of the circumstances started favoring the visiting team, so to speak.
