OK, let's try it this way...

HELP!!!!!!!!!

I have two computer problems, one PC and one Mac, which I can't solve.

The new PC is apparently missing some Activex controls / drivers / whatever the hell that they are, and as a result doesn't seem to want to connect to cameras, faxes, etc. very well. Does anyone know which files might be involved in this, and how I might get the buggers installed? This is an XP PC running service pack 3. I think this is mainly a problem with security settings, but I'm really not sure which ones need tweaking. None of this was a problem on the old PC, so I'm wondering if I could just copy the relevant files from it.

The iBook doesn't want to talk to the network hard disk, although it knows that the network is there and can print to the network printer. I think it needs to forget everything it thinks it knows about my network and start again, but I have no idea how to do this. I can't even remember where the info on the network is stored, and the network utilities I can find don't seem to be much help. Can anyone suggest a fix? It's running OS-X 10.4

I've decided to give up on the web site problem since I have a partial fix and will probably leave NTLworld / Virgin eventually anyway.

When you say ""doesn't want to connect very well" what symptoms do you see? Does it refuse to talk over USB to some of these devices? Does it connect sometimes but not others? Does it make some types of connection but not others? Or what?

I get an initial message that says

! One or more AciveX controls could not be displayed because either:
1) Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page, or
2) You have blocked a publisher of one of the controls.
As a result, the page might not display correctly.

When I click OK on that one I get

X Sorry, a communication error has occurred with an HP scanning component.
If this problem continues, please reinstall scanning software.

When I close that one I sometimes get at least one repetition of both messages.

Hope that makes it clearer.

This is basically stopping Twain stuff from working properly, which affects cameras and my scanner - fortunately there's an alternative scanner driver that works, but isn't anywhere near as easy to use.
