pointed out by [livejournal.com profile] ps238principal - flexible screens are here (or will be in a year or two)

This may go a long way towards making the sort of pocket PC I'd like a possibility. If the screen can be stored curved, or possibly even roll out, a lot of interesting new designs become possible. Possibly it's already too late, with touchscreen pads so popular, but I can hope.

See, I would have guessed that the sort of pocket PC you'd like would be something powered by steam, and trimmed in brass. If possible, one that was lighter than air.

My needs are simple - pocket-ish size, big keyboard, biggish screen. This screen technology plus folding keyboards may bring that closer. I'm not really into brass computers so much for portables, it's too heavy!

Apropos of nothing, I've been looking at ads for Modern Electrics in other magazines. One premium was Electric Thriller Magneto:

This little shocking machine is a surprise in mechanical perfection, finish, and free from danger.

By turning the crank slow or fast the current can be regulated so that a slight or severe shock can be produced. Every boy wants one for instruction and experiment. It is a veritable fun factory and in a group, side-splitting laughter is created by the many amusements and tricks the machine is capable of producing.

It strengthens the nervous system, costs nothing to run, can be applied without aid and supersedes induction coils and medical batteries.
