I'm a member of a small literary discussion group which talks about (mostly) SF once a month. The membership is around 20 people, usually ten or less at the meetings.

A year or so ago the author of the month was James Alan Gardner. Last month it was Mike Resnick, but due to other commitments I knew I wouldn't make it, and didn't buy any books for it. But as if by magic Amazon UK has just emailed me to say that "readers who purchased books by James Alan Gardner may like to know that Mike Resnick has a new book..."

I can only assume that our little group made enough of an impact on their sales figures that it was considered worthwhile following up anyone who bought any book by James Alan Gardner. Not sure what this says about either author's sales, but it's interesting.

Do suggest Jo Walton's Among Others! The book could have been designed for an sf reading group.

Probably won't be Jo again for a while - it's not so long ago we did Tooth and Claw, if I recall correctly.

Which I ought to have remembered since I was writing the Tooth and Claw RPG at that point and hosted the bloody meeting!

I expect a couple of other people did too, hence the email.
