I put a load of data files from my Windows PC onto a dual layer DVD - but it turns out that my iBook G4 can't read it, although it can play dual-layer movies. Is there any way I can write that type of data DVD so it will be compatible? Not an urgent problem, just a small nuisance.

Talking of small things, when I was getting ready for bed last night I noticed a fairly large ladybird on the blind in the bathroom. This morning it's still there, moving around slowly. I'm really not sure what brings it out this early in the year, nor what it can possibly be finding to eat in my bathroom. I took a couple of pictures, if any of them are any good I'll put them on line tonight.

There's a lot of different formats, so to sort it out I'd need the spec on the DVD units. The iBook G4 can have two or three options IIRC.

The disk is DVD+R DL. I think the iBook drive is a "superdrive", I've an idea it only writes DVD-R.

It really isn't that big a deal - none of the files are bigger than 500mb or so, so I could use two single-layer disks instead.

The G4 iBooks came with both DVD-R and DVD+/-R drives. That's why I'm asking for spec. If you go to the Apple and select "About This Mac" and then click on the "More Info" button it'll give you detailed hardware specs like this:

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K06:

Firmware Revision: Q609
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
Cache: 2000 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: To show the available burn speeds, insert a disc and choose View > Refresh

WIth that I can tell you if it is possible or not. I'd need the same info for the WIndows DVD writer.

Are you burning DVD-R DL or DVD+R DL?

It may also be a problem with the media, or (if you believe the paranoid internet) a copyright protection scheme included by Apple.
