It's not terrible, they've just been sticking far too closely to the UK version. The scenes I've liked most, are the ones where they weren't just copying the original.

One of my worries was that they'd try to stretch the plot of the UK episodes over two or three of the American episodes - is that happening?

Not quite, they've added some more arc.
I actually like the US cast more than the UK one.
