Saw Dr. Who tonight in a hall with 1000 or so other SF fans. Pretty good, I think, but I don't think I want to draw conclusions before part 2.

comments are slightly spoilery.

I thought they missed a bit of an opportunity. The visit to the Oval Office should have taken place in June, 1972, and lasted about 18 minutes.

Most Brits wouldn't get it - the details of Watergate aren't so well known here. Also, that's almost at the end of the Apollo program, which is almost certainly going to be the key to the mystery, it doesn't have the impact of the first landing.

Nope, as a Brit that date and time would have meant nothing to me (and still means very little more even with the hint of Watergate). 1969 is immediately recognisable to anyone even vaguely interested in SF (and, importantly, to Amy and Rory).

I gather they started as they obviously mean to go on. Big stunts, recycled plot elements, and an opening gambit that has now been done to death (as it were) in just about every other show.

Still, people seem to like it, so that's all right.

I'm pretty sure that what happened at the start wasn't what _appeared_ to happen. I will be judging it largely on how they explain things and reconcile the obvious problems.
