On our way out of London today we passed the end of Abbey Road. For some reason I've never driven that way in summer before... four people on the zebra crossing pretending to be the Beatles while someone took their picture, another twenty or so tourists waiting to take their turn - and some very annoyed-looking drivers waiting for them to get the hell off the crossing so that they could get past.

Fortunately we went past the road, rather than through it...

There is apparently an Abbey Road webcam that focuses on the zebra crossing 24/7 that is apparently quite amusing.

I noticed a link to it but I shall resist the temptation, I suspect it must get a bit repetitive after a while.

Everytime I've thought to look at it it's about 5AM your time and it's just a view of a random London intersection.

I should add that I'm starting to develope a hatred of tourists taking pictures. One of the stranger things about Princeton in the summer is that every day there are large groups of Asian tourists who all decide to take pictures with their friends in the archways. The thing is, they do this with buildings where the archways into the inner courtyard are the way to get into the %#)(&%ing building. Yes i know it's pretty and interesting but it's also a working place! And I need to get to French class...

Know the feeling well - I work near Baker Street, sometimes you can't move there for Sherlock Holmes fans queuing for photos at e.g. the SH statue at the station, the SH museum, etc.

For some reason I'd always though that Abbey Road was in Liverpool. OK, there probably is one there as well (there are probably huindreds of them in various towns) but I was surprised that the studios are in London. And still very much working.

It must be odd recording there and wondering if the technical people are comparing you to the Beatles.

Famous for Edward Elgar making recording there in the twenties and thirties.

I would think that most of the technical people who actually worked with the Beatles are retired now.

They can still make comparisons.
