I had a little frozen yogurt (a sampler from a new shop) a few days ago and it was very nice. But the shop sells the stuff at £1.50 for 100g, so you would pay about fifteen quid for the equivalent of a one-litre tub of ice cream.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a more reasonably priced source in London; if not, how hard is it to make the stuff, is an ice cream machine essential or can you just do it in a bowl?

Look up keywords 'homemade frozen yogurt without machine'
I also found this: http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2007/07/making-ice-crea-1/

Doesn't look that hard.

Thanks - I'll try it that way, if it looks to be too much trouble I'll get a machine.

Have you looked in your grocery store? Around here, it's usually right beside the ice cream, at a comparable price.

Not in the UK - I've only ever seen it on sale in a supermarket once, about four years ago, and they've never had it again.

Not in any of the branches in this area, so far as I know. But I'll certainly look again.

I used to love making ice-cream, sorbet and frozen yoghurt but I rarely get the chance these days.

I have a spare machine, the type where you pre-freeze the bowl (in an ordinary freezer) so all the machine does is churn. Since inheriting a more sophisticated one I don't use it, but it works well for most recipes. (Its freezing power is marginal for alcoholic ice cream). Would you like it?

Very interested! I'd imagine it'd be pretty heavy, but am I right to think you're in London? Maybe I could collect it to avoid post etc.

Yes, I live in London. It's not difficult to carry but quite bulky (box is, I don't know, a foot square by ten inches?) so almost certainly cheaper for me to tube into town after work than to post it. Anywhere on the Victoria line is best for me. Any preferred evenings next week? (I think I'd rather not Wednesday, will check and get back to you)

Oxford Circus is the easiest for me to reach after work, plus there's motorbike parking nearby, but it's probably a bit of a pain for you because it's so crowded. Or Warren Street, but I'm not quite sure where I would be able to park there. Any evening next week ought to be fine, just give me the when and where.

To clarify that, they have the "cherry Garcia" and "phish food", which I don't want, but not the cheaper greek yogurts.

Have dug it out and checked it out and it's fine, is Thursday at Oxford Circus still OK for you? Specifically, not Ox. Circ., but the Argyll St tube exit - I always head for that one as it is markedly less horrendous. Is 6.30 acceptable?

Recognising me - nerdy thirtysomething in a tie, ponytail, glasses, and tricorne hat. At least the last of these is distinctive!

That ought to be fine - many thanks indeed!
