Quick question for anyone who knows the history of Chicago - need the name of a reasonably well-to-do district at the end of the 19th century. My first thought was Grosse Point, as in Grosse Point Blank, since I somehow got the idea it was an upper-class suburb, but on reviewing it I'm not sure that's correct. Anyone got any suggestions? Want somewhere where a slightly crackpot religion appealing to the well-to-do might be based.

Later edit: Someone has very quickly pointed out that Grosse Point is Detroit, not Chicago. Shows how well I remember films! This pretty well has to be a BIG city e.g. Chicago, possibly New York or Boston, I think Detroit is too small in 1895.

Thanks, any alternate suggestions will be appreciated.

Hyde Park. (Grosse Pointe is in Detroit)

Dang, I was all set to suggest that, too. (It's where U of C is, which might make it a good locale for a crackpot religion.)

What's the area just to the north (centered around 47th) called? ISTR it was also a fairly well-to-do suburb around that time.

Argh! Okay, many thanks - showing my ignorance again, could have sworn it was Chicago in the film!
