This is a bundle for Stillfleet, a far-future SFRPG from the Stillfleet Studio; adventures explore ruined spacecraft ("hulks") and habitable earth-like planets in a far(ish) future of a universe that seems to really dislike interstellar travel - there are the remains of a LOT of vanished cultures out there, and not much evidence as to what happened to them. The framing concept uses an interstellar corporation that sends people out to do the grunt-work of exploration, which seems to have an ethos comparable to Weyland-Yutani at their best.

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/Stillfleet

This is an interesting concept that draws on a lot of familiar themes from SF books and films, a few of which even get acknowledged. I'm a bit iffy about the time scale of the background, it's a bit vague and seems like an awful lot has happened in a few hundred years at some points, while seeming to look at longer periods elsewhere. I haven't looked through much of it apart from the rules, and I suspect that at some point it may be explained that something has messed up the historical and archaological record. There are some fun aliens, and a refreshing emphasis on playing aliens to actually seem alien. If you're interested in SF RPGs I think it's well worth a look.

A bundle of worldbooks for "old school revival" RPG play from Feral Indie Studio:

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/WyrdAndWild

This isn't something I know much about - although the description emphasizes compatibility with various systems, it appears to have its own rules-set, and to be honest I really don't have time to delve into yet another set of fantasy rules for a genre I don't much enjoy. Presentation is reasonably good, and you appear to get a reasonable amount for your money. I just don't really feel a great need it. But if you like this style of play it may be worth a look.

This is a new one on me, a magical-tech fusion setting based very loosely on Norse mythology, from Mongoose Games.

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/ShieldMaidens

This feels like it's aiming at the "magical girl" market, pitching the Shield Maidens against an oppressive empire. I think it could be interesting with the right GM but I don't think that's me. Nevertheless it's reasonably priced and probably worth a look if you like the idea of warring godlike entities.

This is a bundle of material for Wildsea, an RPG set on a very odd post-human / transhuman version of Earth which three centuries earlier was taken over by a vast and extremely dangerous forest, causing the collapse of much of civilization. In the period of the game the forest is typically navigated by huge ships which "sail" the treetops using vast chainsaw mechanisms to gather fuel and other materials. To make life more complicated there are several intelligent races, there's magic, and the forest is not a friendly environment, the air and soil are poisoned with toxic material that is either the cause of its explosive growth or a byproduct.

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/Wildsea

This is a very strange setting, that seems to be inspired by a lot of sources including magical realism, Firefly, the writing of China Mieville, and I suspect countless others. I found myself reminded of the The Edge Chronicles by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell, and Hothouse by Brian W. Aldiss, although the world depicted still has some technology. Presentation is good, though the pages are in landscape format which is undoubtedly intended mainly for use on screens and tablets, not so good if you like printed books. Art is good and avoids most of the usual genre tropes - people generally wear sensibly protective clothing, which seems appropriate to the setting, without going the spiky armour route.

This is a good looking game which has been recommended fairly widely, and the bundle is pretty cheap. I think it's well worth a look, but as I occasionally have to remind myself, I get to play with this stuff free - if you're paying for it your mileage may vary.

A repeat bundle from 2022, Never Going Home, horror in the trenches of WW1 from Wet Ink Games

Last time I said "It's a long time since I've played much horror, I got monstered out with way too much Call of Cthulhu in the eighties and nineties, and to be honest this wouldn't be my preferred setting - WW1 was already horrific without adding monsters. But it looks like you get a good amount of stuff for your money, and if you like this sort of thing it's probably worth a look." I don't see any reason to change that,

Something different - an upbeat-ish superhero game with minimalist rules and a sense of fun. Tiny Supers from Gallant Knight Games based on their earlier Tiny Dungeon.

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/TinySupers

This is pretty cheap, has clear typography and layout, and looks like it is easy to learn and run, which isn't something you can say about all superhero games. Bits of it have been in previous bundles, if you already have them you might want to check how much of this you want to add - it might make more sense to buy things individually. If you don't want to commit to the complexities of Champions, GURPS Supers, etc. it's well worth a look.

More Mörk Borg, this time supplementary material for the CY_BORG spin-off of the Mörk Borg rules, third-party supplements from Christian Eichhorn:

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/Darknet

I haven't had a chance to take a good look at this, but I think that it shares the same layout features that tend to make this system very difficult for me to use so that probably won't be happening. It's reasonably cheap, so if you like the system it's worth a look.
ffutures: (Default)
This is an all-new offer of material for the Mörk Borg RPG system, the "rules-light doom-metal RPG" from Free League Publishing:

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/MorkCore

It's a popular system, but my eyes and brain have a lot of trouble coping with the typography and layout this company prefers, to the point of getting a headache if I look at some pages too long, and I don't think it's for me. Those of you with less tired eyes ought to find a reasonably comprehensive system with a fair amount of potential. This bundle has everything you need for the basic game, a couple of cult outlines, and the standalone games Pirate Borg and CY_borg. The price seems reasonable, but as always check what you actually want - if you already have some of this material it may be cheaper to get anything else you want as you need it, rather than buying the whole bundle.

There are vague rumblings of another bundle on the horizon. Resistance is probably futile...

A bundle of "You are the Hero" solo gamebooks, featuring the 40th Anniversary Edition of Jonathan Green's You Are the Hero, a history of the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks from Games Workshop etc., plus interactive fiction inspired by the Fighting Fantasy gamebook series. There's also a Saxon-era RPG Heorot - Roleplaying in the World of Beowulf Beastslayer by Green.

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/YouAreTheHero

An earlier edition of You Are The Hero was in a previous bundle, everything else is new.

This isn't really my sort of thing any more, although I did review a few when I was writing for White Dwarf, but you get quite a lot for your money, and the RPG looks interesting if you're into this era.
ffutures: (Default)
This one is the Potbellied Kobold Bundle, featuring low-level D&D 5E supplements and adventures from Jeff Stevens Games.

https://bundleofholding.com/index/comingsoon/bundle/1761

I'm really not into D&D and other dungeon-bashing games, and haven't been since the 1980s, but it looks a reasonably good bundle if you still play in this genre. Presentation is reasonable, art is OK, and things seem to be reasonably well-explained in the adventures etc. If you like this sort of thing and still run low-level games it's probably worth a look.

ffutures: (Default)
This is another bundle, the Girl By Moonlight RPG from Evil Hat, based on the "Magical Girl" anime (etc.) genre and using the Forged in The Dark Rules, available for one week

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/Moonlight

This looks like it could be fun if you're into the genre tropes, unfortunately the nearest I've come to it is seeing occasional uses of the idea (without much of the emotional side of things) in Worm fanfic crossovers, and I'm really not genre-savvy enough to do it justice if I run or play it. But it looks like you're getting a pretty good deal if you like this sort of thing, and if you are it's well worth a look.

ffutures: (Default)
This is a repeat of a 2021 offer of Mutant Crawl Classics from Goodman Games, a post-apocalypse adventure game drawing on the same sources as Metamorphis Alpha, Gamma World, etc.

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/MCC2025

In 2021 I said:  This isn't an RPG genre I've played much, it's basically dungeon-bashing with science and mutants rather than magic and monsters, and I don't really do dungeon-bashing any more. Since I haven't been able to give this offering much of a look I'm not sure if it's a particularly playable system, but it's fairly cheap and $14.95 and up (now $17.95) will get you a lot of stuff, so it may be worth taking a chance.

Since then I've checked it out to an extent, and mostly confirmed my previous opinion. It's table-heavy, for those who like random events in their games, and looks a lot like previous systems of this type. I'm not saying it's a bad game or setting, it's just one that doesn't seem to interest me at all. Your opinion may vary, if so it's probably worth a look.

This is a bundle of system-neutral material for fantasy RPGs:

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/FantasySites

I'm probably not the market this is aimed at since I write my own material and have been "off" fantasy for a good few years. Having looked at it, there's a lot of very pretty art and I think some reasonable ideas for scenario hooks etc., and it's good value. It just isn't really my sort of thing.
ffutures: Tesla (Tesla)
Another bundle, this time Leagues of Adventure from Triple Ace Games, a steampunk game and setting based on the Ubiquity rules:

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/AdvLeagues

Given my RPG background this is just up my street - I've played in a couple of games using the Ubiquity rules and they work pretty well, and there are plenty of ideas here to borrow if you use another system such as (dare I say it?) Forgotten Futures or the possibly more mainstream GURPS Steampunk. It looks to be good value for money and I think it's worth a look if you're interested in the genre.

These are two repeat bundles for Champions, one of the first superhero RPG, containing the 4th edition of the game from 1989-2001, and various supplements for it. It's currently on its sixth edition, but the fourth still has a lot of fans. Champions 4E Essentials contains the "Big Blue Book" and key supplements. Champions 4E Universe adds three dozen setting and villain books:

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/25Champs4Essentials

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/25Champs4EUniverse

When these were originally offered back in 2017 I said

Although this stuff was published at least sixteen years ago, I think that it's probably must buys for anyone who doesn't already have the game - if you do, there's a lot to be said for having it in a form that doesn't need a small truck to carry it around. There are hundreds of fun ideas for superhero games, and most of them are easily transferable to other rules systems such as GURPS, Marvel, DC Heroes, etc.

I'd definitely be buying this if I wasn't on their freebies list - but of course your mileage may vary.

Since then there have been bundles for 5E and 6E, so it seems a little odd that 4E is on offer again. The best explanation I can offer is that a lot of people still like this version, and it's worth keeping it alive for newcomers who want to find a game or players easily. Both bundles contain a huge amount of material, and while they're not the cheapest of these bundles, they're well worth a look.

A bundle of games from various publishers on the theme of resistance, fighting authoritarian and corrupt regimes, which will in part benefit the Center for Constitutional Rights, a legal and educational organization for social change:

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/Resistance

It's an interesting bundle given current political events, and has some very interesting ideas - I especially like the really weird one, Eat The Reich, in which a group of vampire commandos are dropped into 1943 Berlin to take out Hitler - irresistibly reminded of a certain River Song scene...

A repeat offer of the Dusk City Outlaws Bundle, featuring the "fantasy heist RPG about criminal cartels in the sprawling metropolis of New Dunhaven" from Scratchpad Publishing. Someone I mentioned it to described it as being like a fantasy steampunk version of Leverage, which sounds about right:

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/Dusk2025

Last time around I said

This seems a little like a fantasy equivalent of a cyberpunk campaign, with the players acting as contract thieves / con men / whatever rather than hackers etc. Generally the rules seem to emphasize drama and story telling rather than precise mechanics, and it seems to be possible to pick up the game and start playing without a huge time investment. On a less positive note, there do seem to be a lot of game components which you can print yourself but are probably better if you buy them ready made - special playing cards and dice, for example - so this could get to be quite expensive. The actual word count seems to be fairly low, which may explain the comparatively low price - the largest document is only a couple of megabytes, and jobs (adventures) only run to a few pages.

Given the low price and slightly different approach it looks like a worthwhile buy, especially if you want to run this sort of campaign and don't have a suitable system. But as as always I have to point out that I get this stuff free, your mileage may differ.

I don't see any reason to change any of that.

Later - edited because first time around I called this "Duck City Outlaws"...

This is a bundle of material for Faster Than Light: Nomad, an "old school" adventure SFRPG from Stellagama Publishing. This is now the company's main SF system, replacing the previous Traveller-derived Cepheus system because of problems with the Open Games License. It draws a lot of its look and feel from old SF magazines, and many of the illustrations originated in SF magazines that are now out of copyright in the USA. I know I've seen some of them before, unfortunately there isn't a list of sources and artists.

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/FTLNomad

This is cheap and looks playable, but feels a little too generic in some ways - there isn't much in the way of a description of the background, even in the adventures, and I think that it may be written with the assumption that the adventurers will be busy having adventures, not worrying about issues much more complicated than "where are the space pirates based?" or "will the cargo eat us?" That doesn't make it a bad game, but I already have plenty of SF games and have written a couple of settings of my own, I'm not entirely convinced I need another.

This is a short-term offer for Flabbergasted, a "lighthearted Roaring '20s RPG" from The Wanderer's Tome, inspired by the Jeeves and Wooster stories and other material with this setting:

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/Flabbergasted

This is cheap, very nicely presented with a lot of excellent art, and looks to be a lot of fun. I don't often find myself laughing when I read through the material for these bundles, but I did this time. It's available until the 24th, and if you have any interest in the genre I think it's definitely worth getting.

This is a repeat of a bundle that has been offered a couple of times before, consisting of books on the history of games (especially role-playing games) and their designers.

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/2025Designers

These are interesting studies of the history of the genre, designers and their philosophies, etc., and I'm hoping that there will eventually be more volumes covering later years. If you've already bought this there's nothing new, if you haven't it's pretty good value and worth a look if you want reasonably unbiased opinions of a lot of pretty good games, or are thinking of designing your own.
