...I now realise that the portable TV in this room is going to have to go - there's no SCART socket and I want to plug a video and my old DVD player into it, and the video puts out too weak an aerial signal to be effective. It's a shame, because it's a nice old Trinitron model, but I can bung it up to my bedroom and use it there when I'm ill.

Anyone know of any really good offers on TVs (17" or thereabouts, preferably flattish screen and at least one SCART or AV inputs) in the London area? No rush, I'm going to be too busy to go buy one for the next couple of weeks, but sooner or later I need to sort this out.

Space isn't the problem, since it's wall mounted anyway... I'm just a bit skint. My pay cycle has changed and my direct debits haven't, and it's been an expensive month, so until things have been paid I don't want to spend massive amounts of money.

But I'd agree that LCD would be better - I just want to wait a year or so for prices to drop some more.

It looks like my school may have a few spare TVs anyway, most departments are starting to use AVA projectors instead, should be able to buy one cheap.
